Passion
My passion is encouraging the process of personal deepening and healing.
This consists of two simple, yet profound movements; the inner movement of emotional and spiritual healing and the subsequent outer movement of peace and healing in the world.
The first movement:
This conscious opening of our hearts and our minds to the inner life, to deeper meaning, to quiet listening allows us to experience a breaking open, a glimpse of what we are called to be in this world.
This can happen through dreams, art, music, events, poetry, crises, nature, physical symptoms, other people, a conversion experience or memories. It is always spiritual in nature and it usually helps sharpen the focus of our own vulnerabilities and pain. This in turn leads us on a journey of peeling away the layers of our own accumulated experiences of denial and fear and allows us to see a future of hope and healing. This journey is best guided by a wise counselor, a spiritual director or clergy or a gifted companion. In this movement we slowly and consciously let go of our resentment, pain, fear and anger and embrace love and healing as our birthright. It is a deeply spiritual journey, sometimes treacherous and requiring courage and other times adventuresome and joyful.
On this journey we make amends when possible and we learn to lovingly detach from that which we are clinging to. We come to love ourselves as the Holy loves us and we gain interior freedom. The outcomes are tranquility, compassion and strength.
The second movement:
An inevitable outgrowth of this inner process is our re-emergence in the world as bearers of light, hope and love. We are models of forgiveness and reconciliation. We find the people and organizations that connect with our deepest heart’s desire. We release that which is not life-giving. We bring our energy and depth to bear on issues that need our attention. This may be behind-the-scenes or in small acts of love or in leadership positions. It does not matter what we do but how we do it.
And we become mentors to others who are journeying along the way. We reach out to them in ways others have reached out to us. We are generous and encouraging, honest and vulnerable. We pass along the wisdom we have gained from the crucibles of life. We are amazing grace in the world.
May each person reading this begin or continue to experience the process of transformation and take the next step on that journey now. What would that step be for you?
